    Project role: Interior Designer

  • The design team created the Everett Clinic at Smokey Point as a two-story, multi-specialty healthcare facility focused on patient-centered care, efficiency, and operational flexibility. Designed to streamline the patient experience, the medical office building consolidates over 20 specialty clinics, aiming to reduce wait times and provide comprehensive care in one accessible location.

Using a Lean, cross-functional approach, the team collaborated with clinic leadership, care providers, laboratory and radiology technicians, administrative staff, and patients. Over eight months, this integrated group worked with the design team through eight Integrated Design Events. This process informed operational and design decisions, achieving key outcomes such as a 23% reduction in non-patient care space, $2.1 million in project cost savings, and an increased patient satisfaction score of 89%.

The center includes 62 exam rooms, urgent and primary care, pediatrics, specialty care, a walk-in clinic, imaging services, and a lab. Every design element reflects the core value of "doing what is right for the patient." The team prioritized flexibility and efficiency, incorporating 62 right-sized exam rooms with 92% adaptability for future needs. Demountable glass partitions, modular furniture systems, and storage carts enable dynamic operational adjustments.

The design emphasizes natural light, with floor-to-ceiling windows on each level to create a bright, welcoming environment. This connection to the outdoors enhances wayfinding while improving the patient and staff experience. Locally sourced materials and art from regional artists accent the interiors, fostering a sense of community and celebrating local culture.

Despite a modest budget and an aggressive project timeline, the design demonstrates creativity and thoughtful execution, proving that exceptional patient care and experience can be achieved through efficient and imaginative design.
